As part of the European Running Business Conference 2026 in Porto (6-8 November), European Athletics has launched the 30 Under 30 Running Leaders initiative — a unique opportunity designed to spotlight and support the next generation of professionals shaping the future of running events and mass participation.
The programme will bring together young leaders from across the global running community, including those working with race organisers, delivery partners, and athletics federations.

A unique opportunity
Thirty selected participants from around the world will be invited to attend the European Running Business Conference 2026, gaining first-hand insight into the industry and its key stakeholders.
Participants will have the opportunity to connect with leading experts, expand their professional networks, and experience one of the most important gatherings in the running events calendar.

Who can apply
Applications are open to individuals aged 18–29 who are actively involved in the organisation of races and mass participation events.
This includes those:
- Working within event organising teams
- Supporting delivery partners and stakeholders
- Collaborating through athletics federations
The initiative recognises the broad network of professionals behind successful running events.
How it works
Applicants are required to complete a short online application form, including basic personal and professional details, along with responses outlining their motivation and experience.
All applications will go through a two-step selection process:
- Eligibility & quality review
- Random draw, ensuring a fair and transparent outcome

- Applications open: 23 March 2026
- Applications close: 24 May 2026
- Winners announced: by 10 June 2026
What you can win
A total of 30 participants (15 female and 15 male) will receive the main prize, which includes:
- Free registration for the European Running Business Conference 2026 in Porto
- Access to all sessions, workshops, and networking opportunities
- Entry to the Porto Marathon (marathon or 10K distance)
- Conference materials and resources
Additional prizes
Further prizes will be awarded at random among the selected participants:
- First prize (2 winners – 1 female, 1 male): Economy return flights within Europe to Porto plus three nights’ accommodation (twin room)
- Second prize (2 winners – 1 female, 1 male): Three nights’ accommodation (twin room)
- Third prize (10 winners – 5 female, 5 male): Free entry to the European Running Championships 2027 in Belgrade
