Lili Anna Vindics-Tóth smashed the Hungarian record as well as the course record in the Warsaw Marathon on Sunday (27) morning.

Just six weeks after winning silver at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham in a PB of 2:27:21, Vindics-Tóth improved to 2:24:48 for victory in the Warsaw Marathon.

In doing so, Vindics-Tóth shaved just over one minute from the previous national record of 2:25:52 which was set by Nora Szabó at the 2024 Valencia Marathon. It was also the fastest time ever recorded on Polish soil.

Vindics-Tóth surged away from Ethiopia’s Gelane Senbete just after the 40km checkpoint to secure the first victory of her nascent marathon career as well as the national record and course record.

The 28-year-old ran at a metronomic pace, recording almost identical halfway splits on a fast and flat course in the Polish capital. She was comfortably under national record pace through halfway in 72:20 and the former steeplechaser barely delineated from that pace in the second half, closing with a split of 72:28.

Vindics-Tóth won ahead of Senbete who was also rewarded with a lifetime best of 2:24:48. Kenya's Vivian Kosgei completed the podium in third in 2:28:34.

In the men's race which was won in convincing fashion by Kenya's Stephen Kibor in 2:09:19, Sweden's Emil Millán de la Oliva was the top European in fourth in 2:13:11.
