  • Polish record! Glinka lowers Polish half marathon record to 68:48 in Gdansk

European 10,000m Cup winner Elżbieta Glinka broke the Polish record at the Gdansk Half Marathon on Sunday (27) morning.

Glinka took the victory in 68:48 to become the first Pole in history to break 69 minutes for the distance. The previous national record belonged to Karolina Nadolska at 69:18 from 2021.

This is Glinka’s second national record-breaking performance of the year having also bettered the Polish 10km record with 31:47 at the Valencia 10K Ibercaja in mid-January.

At 32, Glinka is something of a late-comer to competitive distance running. It was only in 2024 that Glinka began to train seriously and she recalls making the Polish team for the 2025 European Running Championships as the turning point.

"After that race, I truly started to believe that I could compete at a high level. That performance gave me a huge boost of confidence and motivation. It also allowed me to fulfil a childhood dream – representing my country at a major championship," said Glinka in an interview with European Athletics.

Glinka finished fourth overall with the men’s race being won by Adam Głogowski in 65:13.
