Hosts Poland have selected a team which will be replete with medal chances at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Kujawy-Pomorze from 20-22 March.
One of the many standout names on the team is reigning European indoor champion Jakub Szymanski who lowered his Polish 60m hurdles record to 7.37, the third fastest time in history by a European, at the ISTAF Indoor in Berlin last Friday.
Szymanski also tied the world lead which is jointly held by Dylan Beard and Trey Cunningham, both of whom have made the US team for Kujawy-Pomorze.

There will also be high hopes in the women’s 400m for European champion Natalia Bukowiecka who competes at a major indoor championships for the first time since 2022.
Bukowiecka will also be part of a very strong women’s 4x400m team which includes 2018 European champion Justyna Swiety-Ersetic and 2024 European U18 champion Anastazja Kus, both of whom were on their silver medal-winning team in Nanjing last year.
In the short sprints, Ewa Swoboda will also be in contention for another major medal in the 60m. Swoboda won silver two years ago behind Julien Alfred and ran a big season’s best of 7.07 on this track at the Polish Indoor Championships at the end of February.
Pia Skrzyszowska will also be targeting a return to the podium in the 60m hurdles. She won bronze two years ago before finishing fourth in a super-competitive final in Nanjing last year albeit in a Polish record of 7.74.

Other notable names on the team include world high jump silver medallist Maria Zodzik, European indoor 800m champion Anna Wielgosz and Adrianna Sulek-Schubert, the second highest scorer in pentathlon history with 5014 points from the 2023 European Athletics Indoor Championships in Istanbul where she won silver behind Nafissatou Thiam.
