Three individual gold medallists from last year’s European Athletics Indoor Championships have been named on the Dutch team of 23 athletes for the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Kujawy Pomorze, Poland from 20-22 March.

Their team features world and European outdoor champion Jessica Schilder who holds the world lead in the shot put with 20.69m, the same distance she threw to win the European indoor title at home in Apeldoorn last March.

In the women’s 400m, European indoor champion Lieke Klaver will also arrive in Torun with medal prospects in both the individual 400m as well as the relays. Klaver won 400m silver two years ago behind her training partner Femke Bol who won gold in Glasgow in a world indoor record of 49.17.

European indoor 800m champion Samuel Chapple steps up in distance to contest the 1500m. Chapple lowered the Dutch indoor record to 3:32.68 on this track at the Copernicus Cup last month. He will be joined on the Dutch team by Olympic finalist and double European U23 champion Stefan Nillessen.

Other star names on the Dutch team include Nadine Visser, who won the European indoor 60m hurdles on this track in Torun in 2021, and European indoor pentathlon silver medallist Sofie Dokter.

The full Dutch team can be found here. More names could be added to the team at the close of final entries on Wednesday based on their ranking.
