European 100m champion Romell Glave closed his season with another sub-10 second clocking at the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial in Silesia, a World Athletics Continental Tour Silver meeting, on Friday (18) evening.
Glave broke the 10 second-barrier for the third time in wind legal conditions in 2026 with victory in 9.97 to equal his lifetime best from the London Diamond League. He won by a clear margin ahead of Belgium’s Simon Verherstraeten in 10.27.
By virtue of winning the European 100m title in Birmingham just a few weeks later, Glave will receive an automatic wildcard to defend that title at the 2028 European Athletics Championships which will also be held in Silesia.
Wyderka approaches Polish 800m record
Maciej Wyderka was also a clear-cut winner in the men's 800m in 1:43.65, winning by over one second ahead of teammate Filip Ostrowski (1:44.69) and Morocco’s Mouad Zahafi (1:44.74).
As well as improving his lifetime best, Wyderka also moves to third on the Polish all-time list and within half-a-second of the long-standing national 800m record of 1:43.30 set by Pawel Czapiewski in 2001.
In the women’s 800m, Croatia’s Nina Vukovic foisted the prospect of a Polish double, winning in 2:00.92 ahead of reigning European indoor champion Anna Wielgosz in 2:01.09.
Paweł Fajdek was also in winning form in the hammer. He threw 79.04m for victory over Ukraine’s Mykhaylo Kokhan with 77.16m.
