Owen Ansah eclipsed his German 100m record with a 9.98 clocking for victory on home soil at the Sparkassen Open in Regensburg on Saturday (6).
Ansah, who became the first German sprinter to break the 10 second-barrier in legal wind conditions, shaved 0.01 from his national record. His time was also a European lead, displacing reigning two-time European champion Marcell Jacobs (9.99) from the top of the 2026 European list.
"We train for times like these and races like these. The fact that I've managed it in only my second race of the season is quite a surprise. I'm really happy that the time is already there," said Ansah as quoted by Leichtathletik.de.
After clocking a national record of 11.09 in her heat, Portugal’s Tatjana Pinto won the 100m final in 11.17 ahead of 19-year-old Philina Schwartz who finished second in 11.30.
Austria also sliced more than half-a-second from their recently-set national record of 43.77 in the women’s 4x100m with a 43.11 clocking. Their team included Isabel Posch who ran an Austrian 100m record of 11.10 in St. Polten on Thursday evening.
10.99 100m for Swoboda in Warsaw
European 100m silver medallist Ewa Swoboda had the distinction of becoming the first European to break the 11 second-barrier for 100m this year.
Swoboda won on home soil at the Halina Konopacka Classic, a World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze events, on Sunday (7) in 10.99 on her outdoor season's opener. This was the fifth time Swoboda has broken the 11 second-barrier for 100m in wind legal conditions.
In the 100m hurdles, Jamaica's Megan Tapper pipped 2022 European champion Pia Skrzyszowska in the final, 12.79 to 12.83. However, Skrzyszowska did clock the fastest time of the day in the heats with 12.61.
Other highlights included world silver medallist Maria Zodzik clearing a 1.96m season's best in the high jump and Fatoumata Binta Diallo winning the 400m hurdles in a Portuguese record of 54.31.

Jana Van Lent smashed the long-standing Belgian record at the Belgian 10,000m Championships in Louvain-la-Neuve on Saturday. Van Lent clocked a solo 30:51.18 to smash Marleen Renders' mark of 31:03.60 which had stood since 2000.
2022 European silver medallist Bo Kanda Lita Baehre cleared 5.76m for victory on home soil at the Touch the Clouds pole vault meeting, a World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze meeting, on Saturday.
Lita Baehre took the victory ahead of Greece’s Ioannis Rizos and Great Britain’s Owen Heard, both of whom cleared 5.70m.
Only 19, European U20 bronze medallist Luka Boskovic set a big lifetime best of 8.14m in the long jump in Kraljevo, Serbia. His previous lifetime best stood at 7.94m.
Former European and world discus champion Andrius Gudzius threw 67.75m in Palanga on Saturday, his best mark since 2022.
Former European U23 high jump silver medallist Roman Petriuk, 22, cleared a big lifetime best of 2.30m in Lutsk on Saturday.
Kubilay Ençü set a Turkish 400m record of 45.30 in Izmir on Saturday.
