Reigning European champion Kristjan Ceh became the first thrower to break the 70 metre-barrier in the discus in 2026 at the Oklahoma Throws Series meeting in Ramona on Sunday (29) afternoon.
Ceh set a world lead of 68.76m in the same venue yesterday but in better wind conditions today, the Slovenian launched the discus out to 72.26m on his first attempt, just 10 centimetres shy of his national record and the fourth time he has broken the 72 metre-barrier in his career.
Ceh broke the 72 metre-barrier on his second attempt as well with 72.06m before concluding his series with 66.26m, 68.66m, a foul and then 66.94m.
Ceh won the competition by more than eight metres from Great Britain’s Nick Percy with 63.84m.
