Home favourite Jan Stefela, a world bronze medallist, had to settle for second at the Kladno memorial meeting on Tuesday (9) despite jumping higher than the meet record as Germany’s Tobias Poyte cleared 2.25m on his first attempt to take the win.

Poyte, who took a European silver in 2022, nearly faltered at 2.19m but went through on his third attempt then needing another two at 2.22m before easing over the meeting record height.

For Stefela, while 2.25m is seven centimetres from his best this year, it is an outdoor season’s best for the Czech athlete.

It was though a win in the men’s hammer for Czechia’s Volodymyr Myslyvchuk who threw 78.93m to break the meeting record and also mark his fourth throw this year beyond his PB from 2025.

While in the women’s hammer Denmark’s Katrine Koch Jacobsen took the win with 73.73m in the third round as she builds consistency having now thrown 73m or more in her last four competitions.

Czechia also saw a home win in the men’s shot put as Tomas Stanek, former European indoor champion, threw 21.00m in the second round before retiring from the rest of the competition.

Great Britain’s Scott Lincoln took second place with a painfully close 20.99m in the fourth round, which he jokingly suggested should be remeasured due to the closeness to Stanek’s best mark.

But in the women’s shot put Katharina Maisch took the win with 18.61m with Jessica Inchude in second with her best throw of 18.06m, as both athletes threw their best distance in the final round.

Romania’s Alin Alexandru Firfirica took the win in the discus with 63.46m ahead of Germany’s European U23 champion Steven Richter who threw 63.16m for second place.

Petra Sicakova, the 2026 European U23 silver medallist, took the win in the women’s javelin with a PB of 60.98m.

The 22-year-old Czech, Jan Vyska, took second in the men’s javelin with 76.79m behind South Africa’s Douw Smit who won with 82.08m.

On the track former European U18 and reigning European U20 champion Charlotte Henrich won the 400m in a dominant performance that saw her run 51.80, crossing the line just over a second before her next competitor.

France’s Muhammad Kounta won the men’s 400m in a season’s best of 45.33 ahead of Denmark’s Gustav Lundholm Nielsen who came second with 46.00.

Britain’s European U23 silver medallist, Justin Davies, took the men’s 800m via photo finish ahead of former European U18 and U20 champion Jakub Dudycha who were both given a time of 1:46.19.

While the women’s 800m was won by Croatian 24-year-old Nina Vukovic who ran 2:02.05 for her second race over the distance outdoors this year.

The men’s 1500m was won by the Netherlands’ Ioann Lobles in 3:43.26, ahead of Slovenia’s Rok Markelj in 3:43.54 and Ireland’s James Gormley in 3:45.54.
