European Athletics has formally ratified seven European records in September 2026. 

European mixed 4x100m record

39.97 - Great Britain & NI (GBR)

Anchored by Amy Hunt, Great Britain & NI became the first European quartet to break the 40 second-barrier for the newly established event with a 39.97 clocking at the 2026 European Athletics Championships in Birmingham.

Their team bettered the previous European record of 40.15 set by Germany in the heats at the 2026 World Relays in Gaborone.

Men’s European marathon race walk record

2:56:49 - Massimo Stano (ITA)

Stano completed the set of major race walk titles in style in Birmingham. 

Having already won world and Olympic titles, Stano strode to European gold in the first iteration of the marathon race walk in 2:56:49, comfortably inside the European record target time of 3:00:00. 

Women’s European U20 400m hurdles record

55.19 - Linda Botková (CZE)

Only 16, Botková stormed to 400m hurdles gold at the European Athletics U18 Championships in Rieti. 

As well as breaking the long-standing European U18 best of 56.01, Botková also eclipsed Ionela Tirlea’s European U20 record of 55.46 which had stood since 1995.

Men’s European U20 3000m steeplechase record

8:28.35 - Bakr El Asri (ESP)

El Asri became the first non-African winner of the 3000m steeplechase title at the World U20 Championships, setting a European U20 record of 8:28.35 in the process.

The Spaniard ran faster in the build-up with a 8:24.40 clocking in Vienna although that mark could not be ratified. 

Men’s European U20 400m hurdles record

48.59 - Michal Rada (CZE)

Having won European U18 and U20 titles in back-to-back seasons, Rada added the world U20 400m hurdles to his list of accolades at the World Athletics U20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon.

The Czech teenager stopped the clock at 48.59 to break Vladimir Budko’s long-standing European U20 record of 48.74 which had stood since 1984.

Women’s European U23 half marathon race walk record

1:32:36 - Sofia Fiorini (ITA)

In the build-up to the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham where she won gold in the marathon race walk, Fiorini showed excellent form at the shorter distance.

She finished second in the half marathon race walk in La Coruna in a European U23 record of 1:32:36. 

Men's European U23 short track 800m record

1:45.69 - Louey Ouerrat (FRA)

In his one and only indoor 800m of the season, the 21-year-old set a European U23 short track record of 1:45.69 on home soil in Metz.
