In the temple of the Diamond League the world’s main one-day meeting circuit becomes a showcase for the future, building a direct bridge to the upcoming continental youth event.
The connection between the two events took shape in a symbolic meeting between mascots. Romeo, the Golden Gala’s star, and Sabina, the face of Rieti 2026, met on 4 June, marking the start of the countdown. The moment was the Palio dei Comuni, the historic and highly popular 12x200 relay that energises the event’s program, with the final held at the peak moment of the competition.
The message was clear on the track as well: young athletes wearing bibs branded Rieti 2026 ran to remind everyone that there is now “one lap to go” before the European Championships. The Golden Gala amplified the continental event, with dedicated ads throughout the evening at the Olimpico and constant visibility on the LED boards promoting ticket sales, now available on TicketOne.
Bridging the present and the future was also Alessia Succo, the European U18 record holder and a highly anticipated contender in the 100m hurdles in Rieti. Her presence at the Golden Gala was both a technical and symbolic step: international experience today, a European goal tomorrow. “It helped me grow,” she explained, already looking ahead to the season’s competitions leading up to the July highlight.
