Zaynab Dosso powered to a stunning victory against an illustrious field to claim the women’s 60m title at the World Athletics Indoor Championships on Saturday (21).
Having taken bronze in Glasgow 2024 and silver in Nanjing 2025, the Italian sprinter completed her medal set in style — delivering a commanding display of controlled speed through every round.

Her triumph also marked a historic moment for Italy. Prior to Saturday, the nation had not won a gold medal at the World Athletics Indoor Championships since Fiona May’s long jump victory in 1987.
But with Dosso’s success — preceded by Nadia Battocletti’s 3000m win — Italy celebrated two titles within the space of two hours after nearly four decades of waiting.
Dosso steps it up for semis
Dosso had signalled her form early, easing through her heat on Friday (20) in 7.07, before stepping up another level on Saturday. She clocked 7.00 in both the semi-finals and final to secure gold in emphatic fashion.
The 26-year-old’s explosive start proved decisive once again in the final, immediately putting pressure on Saint Lucia’s Olympic 100m champion Julien Alfred, USA’s Jacious Sears, Poland’s Ewa Swoboda and European 100m champion Dina Asher-Smith.

None could mount a serious challenge as Dosso surged clear to add world indoor gold to the European indoor title she won in Apeldoorn last year.
Behind her, Sears and Alfred were both timed at 7.03, with the American awarded silver after a photo finish.
