Spanish internationals and world finalists Jaime Guerra and Jesús David Delgado were impressive home victors at the Canarias Athletics Invitational in Tenerife on Wednesday (27).
The World Athletics Continental Tour Silver meeting was streamed live on the European Athletics YouTube channel, and highlights are now available.
Guerra, who reached the final at last year’s World Athletics Championships, won the men’s long jump, setting a meeting record of 8.05m in the opening round to take victory.
World and European semi-finalist Delgado ran a well-paced race to win the men’s 400m hurdles in 49.87, while the women’s race was won by Belgium’s Paulien Couckuyt in 55.63.
Lindahl dashes to impressive win
In the sprints, European U23 200m bronze medallist Nora Lindahl impressed in the 200m. The former Swedish international, who will be switch eligibility to Finland in 2028, ran to a clear win in 23.03 (+0.9m/s).
In the women’s 100m hurdles, Great Britain’s Emma Nwofor won in 12.96 (+1.3m/s), taking full advantage after leader Aasia Laurencin of St Lucia clattered the penultimate hurdle.
In the distance races, World University Games silver medallist Veronica Vancardo of Switzerland took a routine win in the women’s 800m, always having plenty in hand on the last lap as she eased away to win in 2:03.52.
And in the men’s 1500m, World University Games 800m bronze medallist Mehmet Çelik of Türkiye demonstrated a rare turn of speed in a tactical race, sprinting clear with 250m left to win in 3:43.59.
European Athletics also streamed two jumps meetings on Wednesday. At the Filathlitkos Kallitheas International Jumping Meeting in Athens, 2023 world bronze medallist Alina Rotaru-Kottmann of Romania won the women’s long jump with a wind-assisted 6.85m (+2.1m/s).
In the men’s long jump, Sweden’s 2022 European silver medallist Thobias Montler won with a best of 7.93m (+1.7m/s).
Mackenzie eight metre breakthrough
At the JBL Jump Fest in Košice, Slovakia, the USA’s Monae Nichols got the better of France’s Hilary Kpatcha in the women’s long jump with a winning leap of 6.69m.
Kpatcha, who was fourth at last year’s World Athletics Championships, finished second with a best of 6.53m.
There was also a breakthrough victory for Great Britain’s Stephen Ross Mackenzie, who won the men’s long jump with 8.01m, while Jamaica’s world leader Jordan Scott won the men’s triple jump with 17.44m.
