European Athletics has formally ratified four European records in May 2026.
Women’s European 10km record (mixed race)
- 29:51 - Klara Lukan (SLO)
Slovenia’s Klara Lukan became the first European in history to break the 30 minute-barrier for 10km on the roads with victory at the Laredo 10K on 18 April.
After three incremental improvements on the European record in the early months of 2026, Lukan sliced 16 seconds from Megan Keith’s record of 30:07 which was set only two months prior, also on Spanish soil in Castellon.
Lukan’s winning time in Laredo was initially widely reported at 29:50 but her official time was recorded at 29:51.
Men’s European U23 10km record
- 27:54 - Juan Zijderlaan (NED)
In a race of fantastic depth, 20-year-old Juan Zijderlaan from the Netherlands finished 12th at the 10K FACSA Castellon in a European U23 record of 27:54 on 22 February.
Zijderlaan missed his record by just one second at the Urban Trail de Lille on 4 April.
Men’s European U23 short track 1500m record
- 3:34.32 - Hakon Moe Berg (NOR)
Double European U20 champion Hakon Moe Berg from Norway ran himself into the record books in his first race in the U23 ranks. The Norwegian ran a solo 3:34.32 on his season’s debut in Stockholm on 22 January to break the European indoor U23 record.
By virtue of a 2006 date-of-birth, the 19-year-old Moe Berg is eligible for this age-group until the end of 2028.
European U23 marathon race walk record
- 3:25:42 - Sofia Fiorini (ITA)
Italy’s Sofia Fiorini established the first ever European U23 marathon race walk record with a 3:25:42 clocking in hot and humid conditions at the World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships in Brasilia on 12 April, the second fastest time by a European at the distance.
Fiorini won individual silver behind Ecuador’s Paula Milena Torres and also led Italy to another silver medal in the team race.
