Italy’s Andy Díaz Hernández defended his title in the men’s triple jump at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Kujawy Pomorze on Friday (20).
Also, the European indoor champion and Olympic bronze medallist, he once again proved his championships credentials, beating a quality field to won gold.
He took command right from the start, landing a world lead 17.47m to send a clear message to his competitors.
It was a standard his opposition could not match. The next best was Jamaica’s Jordan Scott who produced a consistent series, his best being a third round 17.33m for silver. Bronze went to Algeria’s Yasser Mohammed Triki with 17.30m, achieved in the fourth round.
Díaz Hernández had the luxury of passing his third round, only re-emerging for a fourth round 17.08m. He recorded fouls in the fifth and sixth rounds, but could be content with another major title.
