Access Sport, with support from UK Sport and the London Marathon Foundation, is working together with a range of partners to deliver the ‘Beyond’ impact plan, a programme created to inspire positive, lasting change across Birmingham and the West Midlands linked to this summer’s European Athletics Championships (10-18 August).
As part of the ‘Beyond’ programme, athletics clubs and coaches across the region now have the opportunity to access a range of Access Sport inclusion training for free, helping to ensure more young people are included in athletics provision within the region.
The following free events are taking place in March and April:
Disability Inclusion Introduction for Athletics Clubs
🗓️ Date: Wednesday 18 March
🕕 Time: 7pm - 9pm
📍 Location: Virtual (Zoom)
Disability Inclusion Introduction will explore various disability impairment groups within a sport context – including physical disabilities; learning disabilities and difficulties; visual impairments; hearing impairments and other non-visible disabilities. We will explore barriers and challenges faced, as well as practical skills and tools to adapt and develop inclusive practice within an athletics context.
This training is not about para-athletic delivery such as frame running or wheelchair racing, but more about creating inclusive environments in your own settings that are suitable for children and young people of all abilities to learn and develop in sport.
Suitable for anyone interested in disability inclusion and improving their knowledge and skills on how to support disabled children in coaching. You might be a coach, volunteer, athlete, admin staff, official, or any other relevant role.
