European U23 100m champion Karolina Manasova smashed Jarmila Kratochvilova’s legendary and enduring Czech 100m record at the Liese Prokop Memorial, a World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze meeting, on Tuesday (4) evening.
Kratochvilova’s mark of 11.09 had been largely untroubled since it was set in 1981 but in optimal sprinting conditions, Manasova improved the record to 11.08 in the heats before almost becoming the first Czech in history to break the 11 second-barrier with 11.01 in the final.
Just behind Manasova, Germany’s multiple relay medallist Rebekka Haase, herself a treble European U23 champion as well, clocked 11.04 to finish second while Isabel Posch also broke new ground, setting an Austrian record of 11.10 in third.
Posch, who has also excelled as a heptathlete and competed for Austria in the combined events at the 2024 European Athletics Championships, broke Karin Mayr-Krifka’s long-standing mark of 11.15 from 2003.
Her son Felix did set a national U20 100m record of 10.47 to win the ‘B’ race of the men's 100m. The ‘A’ race was won by Brit Elliot Jones in a season’s best of 10.09 ahead of Austrian record-holder Markus Fuchs in 10.32.
Portugal's Sofia Lavreshina made a sizeable breakthrough with a 54.48 clocking in the 400m hurdles, slicing over two seconds off her lifetime best to come within 0.03 of the national record. Slovenia's Nika Glojnaric also took a notable win in the 100m hurdles in a lifetime best of 12.76.
Elsewhere, there were home victories for European silver medallist Lukas Weisshaidinger in the discus (63.68m), 2025 European U23 champion Enzo Diessl in the 110m hurdles (13.40) and for Caroline Bredlinger in the 800m (2:01.41).
